This week we’re hitting the August Bank Holiday weekend, with Oxygen 2013 among other events. Oxygen has a heavy emphasis on dance music this year, with names such as David Guetta and Calvin Harris leading the line. There’s also the boutique festival in the Big House (Cellbridge), which has the excellent Farm among others. Indiependence Festival and Castlepalooza also kick off, for a full weekend stuffed with festivals! So, what about things actually happening in Dublin then, I hear you scream? Well, see below…
Theatre
This week is the first chance to see Major Barbara in the Abbey, along with The Friends of Jack Kairo in the New theatre.
Previews of Major Barbara starts at the Abbey Theatre on 31st July.
A Streetcar named Desire is at the Gate (it’s top notch, our review is here)
Foreign Bodies is in the Project’s Cube today (until August 3rd).

Riverdance (June 27th – 1st Sept) is at the Gaiety Theatre

Movies
The Lighthouse continues its Ennio Morricone season, with The Mission on Wednesday the 31st
Eye to eye is at the IFI, which is a look at cinematography in cinema. This week there’s The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
There’s also the Gaze gay film festival in the Lighthouse Cinema for the full of the Bank Holiday Weekend.
Gigs
This is the week of the festivals with Oxygen, Indiependence Festival and Castlepalooza. It could be a bit crazy. Blur, Hot 8 Brass Band and Seamus Fogarty would be my top picks of the other events around Dublin.

183rd RHA Annual Exhibition runs from 28 May-17 Aug, 2013. It always feels like summer to me when this exhibition opens! It’s well worth a look, and a great snap shot of art in Ireland.
I knOw yoU– IMMA Earlsfort Terrace – 19 April – 1st Sept 2013 – “I knOw yoU is a dynamic exhibition by a new generation of young European artists” or so says the blurb on the new exhibition in IMMA @ NCH (Earlsfort Terrace). It features the work of over 50 artists, so should be something for everyone! Quite looking forward to this one, Tino Sehgal also continues in the same venue.
