The song debuted last night on Zane Lowe’s BBC One show and this morning saw the unveiling of the official video for Villagers’ new – between-albums – single ‘Occupy Your Mind.’ It is a sonically propulsive and interesting direction (content-wise) for Villagers because the song has an overt and contemporary political-critical slant…(here’s looking at you Putin!). This is what Conor has said about the track:
In the advent of the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, please find attached a song written for you, your mother, your father and your gay brothers and sisters in Russia.
Currently writing the new album, Conor and co. will be briefly returning to the stage at the end of this month to perform at the Choice Music Prize in Vicar St., 27th February. In the meantime, take a gander at the video below and you can download the song from iTunes HERE.
Lyrics:
‘Cos it’s the funniest feeling
So let’s slip inside
Out of this world
Out of this life
‘Cos this place called Home
Is no longer mine
So now I need to occupy your mindWell there’s a crack in the ceiling
And there’s a hole in the sky
And there’s a government warning
They don’t like our kind
But now it’s three in the morning
And I’m feeling just fine
And I just want to occupy your mindOur bodies are dancing
Divisions all die
Eye of the beholder
Beholding the eye
And in this infinite space, dear
I can hardly feel time
And I just want to occupy your mind
