Always first with the news, Alan Moore seems to have released an album somewhere in August of this year. I only stumbled upon this now in one of the end of the year lists, that are doing the rounds in various publications (and no, I’m not going to resist temptation to do the same here!). I doubt anyone reading this doesn’t know who Alan Moore is, and if you don’t, you should be ashamed of yourself!
I knew Alan Moore had released spoken word stuff before, with his ‘The Moon & Serpent Grand Egyptian Theatre of Marvels’, but this collection sounds a lot more interesting, mostly due to the people he’s collaborating with. Names such as Mike Patton (Faith No More/Fantomas/Mr. Bungle etc), Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai), Adam Drucker (aka Doseone of cLOUDEAD, /Themselves/Subtle), and Zach Hill (Hella) are pretty impressive and would make most people sit up and listen, and possibly get over their initial fear. Photography from Mitch Jenkins also accompanies the package, which is pretty interesting too.
Here he is on youtube, discussing the project. It’s available on amazon, if you want to have a look also.
