TV Picks of the Week 19/04/22

TV Picks of the Week 19/04/22
by Jamie Waddell

After a brief hiatus to gorge on a body weight’s worth of chocolate, No More Workhorse is back with the best shows you should be watching this week. So, kick off your bunny feet slipper and let’s crack on…

Better Call Saul – Season 6 – Netflix, Tuesday

The gavel has fallen on Jimmy McGill’s time as the go-to-lawyer for Albuquerque’s criminals. Perhaps expedited by the heart attack suffered by its star, the great Bob Odenkirk, Better Call Saul is shutting up shop after its sixth season. Closing out two decades of Breaking Bad/BCS dominating television, this final season might even feature some familiar faces.

Life After Life – BBC2, Tuesday at 9 pm

Based on the best selling novel of the same name by Kate Atkinson, Life After Life follows Ursula Todd and all the alternative possible lives she could have lived. Thomasin McKenzie stars alongside Sian Clifford in a four-part series that looks set to be a critical darling.

Russian Doll – Season 2 – Netflix, Wednesday

Russian Doll was one of my favourite shows of 2019 and I can’t wait for this new series. From the mind of Amy Poehler and Natasha Lyonne, we follow Nadia as she gets stuck in a time loop (again) cycle of dying with no real end in sight. Just as existentially draining, just a cuttingly funny, this series is just as good as what went before.

The Pact – RTE One, Thursday at 9:30 pm

A group of friends are caught up in a disaster as their boss unexpectedly died after a drunk prank went wrong. The friend agrees upon a pact of secrecy that will change their life forever. With an established cast and a thriller plot at the centre, this show promises to be a wild ride.

Spice Girls at the BBC, BBC Two, Saturday at 10 pm

Get ready to spice up your life once more with a celebration of girl power courtesy of the BBC. Celebrating 25 years since their formation, we see a number of their best performances on the BBC pulled together into one programme.
