Album of the Week – 26/11/21

It’s the end of the year, Adele has released her latest effort and really, from here on out you can expect it to be a bit quiet for new albums!

There are a few nuggets to sit up and take notice of though, including A Place To Bury Strangers (Hologram: Destroyed & Disassembled) and Manchester post-punk band IST IST (The Art of Lying). There are a couple of live albums with the most unusual couple of Helmet (Live and Rare) and Rufus Wainwright (Rufus Wainwright and Amsterdam Sinfonietta Live). Bryce Dessner and Aaron Dessner (of The National) never seem to rest particularly long, and they’re back with a soundtrack to a new film (Cyrano – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack).

Richard Dawson has been getting rave reviews for his live performances for many years, but it’s possible the first time he’s featured on this site? This album sees him working with ‘pioneers of The New Wave of Finnish Heavy Metal’ that could only be Circle. It’s a lot of fun, and you can check it out below.

Album of the Week – Richard Dawson & Circle – Henki

Henki is the epic joint record from Richard Dawson, the diminutive Geordie troubadour, and Circle, the genre-straddling pioneers of The New Wave Of Finnish Heavy Metal. Unlike any metal album you have heard before, Henki’s seven tracks deal with special plants throughout history, making it the greatest flora-themed hypno-folk-metal record you’ll hear this year.
