Christmas is in high gear, and it’s all about tinsel and fairy lights at Workhorse towers. In between the manic shopping and egg nogging (ok, that’s not a word) there’s a surprisingly large amount to see around the city.
Theatre
A couple of new additions this week, with Assassins, Cardboard City and Way to Heaven at the Project, as part of the Rough Magic Seeds project. There’s also 60 minutes in Dublin, in the New Theatre.
The Abbey – Previews of The Risen People continues until Feb 1st.
The Gate – Previews of Pride and Prejudice continues until Jan 18th.

No Smoke without Fire is at the Viking Theatre in Clontarf, until Dec 21st.
60 minutes in Dublin is at the New Theatre Dec 9th to 14th.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is at the Gaiety Theatre.
Henry VI and Michael Harding are at the Civic Theatre (among others).
The Yule Tide Tales – (a cycle of new plays based on classic Christmas tales, set against the backdrop of a modern day Dublin) is at Theatre Upstairs from Dec 3rd to 21st.
Movies
Christmas Crackers at the IFI with Mary Poppins on Monday 9th and Its a Wonderful Life on the 13th.
Bruce Dern season at the IFI, with Nebraska and Drive, he said this week.
My So Called Life screening at the Workman’s Club on the 9th at 8.
Bad Santa is at the Workman’s Club on the 10th at 7.30
Naught or Nice season at the Lighthouse has Mary Poppins, Die Hard and Wake in Fright.
Gigs
Not a vintage week on the gig front, but there’s a good Jazz event on Wednesday with the Larry Goldings Trio and Neko Case on Monday in the Button Factory also. Hypnotic Brass Ensemble begin a residency in the Sugar Club, as part of their Xmas party.
