Things to Do in Dublin – 21st – 26th Jan 2013

Follow

Today is Blue Monday, according to the radio, and yes, it’s not the most exciting out there on the streets of Dublin, but there’s a few things worth a mention.

ArtSidney Nolan exhibition is at the other IMMA;  Kilmainham. It closes on the 27th of Jan, so this is your last chance! No more excuses! It’s a beautiful show with great landscape art combined with the bizarre story of Ned Kelly. Watch the video on his life also, he had a fascinating one! Alice Maher‘s show at IMMA (Earlsfort Terrace) is really impressive also (until Feb 27th), and the Tribal Textiles from Iran continues in the Douglas Hyde (until Jan 30th). Stepping Into the Light (Group show including Pat Scott) continues at the Hugh Lane. Blackshaw at 80 (A complete legend in my book!) and Justin Larkin Scenery continue at the RHA until Feb 24th.

Private Galleries: Bono’s mate Gugi is at the Kerlin (until the 23rd Feb). The Winter show (Group show until Jan 26th) is at the Taylor Gallery. Jessica Sturgess (Sculptor)  is at the Oliver Sears until 28th Feb. The Black Church Print Studio show ‘Repitition‘ is at the Cross Gallery (until Jan 31st). The Kevin Kavanagh Gallery is showing Elaine Byrne. Janus is at the Peppercanister Gallery.

Theatre – Out with the old, and in with the new, with The Dead, Cousin Rachel and The Theatre machine turns you on all finishing! Bedroom Farce starts at the Gate, with previews from Friday.  The Life and Death of Eric Argyle continues at Smock Alley until the 26th of January. We liked it lots, our review is here! Follow starts at the Project arts centre, by the quite wonderful WillFredd theatre group. Expect a review later in the week.

Movies –  Tarantino Unchained is a Tarantino retrospective, which is at the Lighthouse with a chance to see Kill Bill Double feature this week!  A Roman Polanski Season continues at the IFI, with Rosemary’s baby on Wednesday. God, I love that movie. Part 2 of their Genius of Hitchcock season nears it’s end with Frenzy today.

Jane Birkin

Gigs – The Tradfest kicks off tomorrow for those that way inclined. Othered Voices is at the Irish Stock Exchange (?), Temple bar, with Jinx Lennon among others. Jane Birkin at the NCH and Jim Jones Revue are the best of a mediocre lot this week.

Paloma Faith – Vicar Street – 21-01-13

Jim Jones Revue – Whelans – 24-01-13

Mumblin’ Deaf Ro – Odessa Club – 24-01-13
