Thomas Vinterberg directed Festen 14 years ago, and then somewhat went off the boil. He worked on a few TV movies and even with Metallica, but with The Hunt, it sounds like he’s back on form! If it’s half as good a movie as Festen it’ll be worth seeing, and has definitely tweaked my interest due to the variety of five-star reviews knocking around. It’s the tale of a kindergarten teacher (Mads Mikkelsen) wrongly accused of child abuse.
Sightseers was also released and it’s a dark comedy that reminded me of early Peter Jackson, our review is here. ‘Death of a Superhero‘ is a tale of a young man dying of movie cancer (no hair, otherwise fine!). Ok, I’m being glib, but that’s what the trailer looks like.
Otherwise, Rise of the Guardians sadly gets poor reviews, as I thought that could be a good kids movie! Robert Lorenz is a first time director, but worked as first assistant director on a massive amount of movies, including some by Clint Eastwood. His new movie ‘Trouble with the Curve‘ has most of Hollywood in it, (Clint, Amy Adams, Justin Timberlake, John Goodman, Jason Patrick etc.) but sadly only gets average reviews. Clint plays an old world Baseball scout in a tale so formulaic that ‘it could have been written by a computer programme‘.
