In his pre trip-to-the-cabin-in-the-snow days, Justin Vernon made a couple of records under the name of Deyarmond Edison. I only got into this album since the release of the second Bon Iver album so it had a lot to compete with and for a while I thought I shouldn’t have begun listening to it so close to that release. But I must say the record has grown on me steadily since to the point where it is a very easy choice of music to put on at home when reaching for the iPod. It is lovely stuff and if you are into the more gentle Americana songs from Uncle Tupelo or Wilco you will love this.

It is odd how much his voice changed, he definitely moved up an octave or two!
There’s also a thing on recording his new album. Still doesn’t mention why he included a Phil Collilns cover at the end of it though!
