Kid606 – Recollected Ambient Works Vol 1: Bored of Excitement – Album Review by Killian Laher

The latest album from Kid606 is a major departure from his glitchy, techno work. As indicated by the title it’s a collection of sparse, ambient pieces, not too far off Brian Eno. It’s very tranquil, largely piano based with occasional droning. D Minor is possibly the most realised piece here, a sparse progression of piano notes. It’s unclear as to whether the “Minor” in the song titles relates to the key, or perhaps it’s a minor (small m) joke at our expense, that is that these pieces are a departure from Kid606’s ‘major’ work. Not that it matters. When taken on its own merits, this album works very well.

1. A Minor
2. B Minor
3. C Minor
4. D Minor
5. E Minor
6. F Minor
7. G Minor
