Blue Film – Review

Aaron Eagle (Kieron Moore) is a young man who makes a living in a fairly unusual way. We’re introduced to him as he is online, talking to a group of male suitors on an OnlyFans equivalent. He titillates, abuses and tempts them, offering to show the ‘fags’ watching more of his body than his torso, which is already exposed. Aaron receives an offer that’s too good to turn down: €50k for a night in one man’s company. When he arrives, the older man is wearing a balaclava to hide his face. He starts by recording Aaron, asking him questions about his life, but all is not as it seems, as the man in the balaclava knows Aaron and his previous life! 

This film is written and directed by Elliot Tuttle, who is a relatively new name, having previously directed the 2020 release, The Steps. This film takes on an extremely challenging issue of Paedophilia or Pederasty as one character corrects the other. A sexual relationship between a man and an adolescent boy. The film delves deep into the topic and leaves the viewer feeling extremely uncomfortable for the duration. There is even some justification, of a sort, for the actions of the older man. The older male character (Mr Grant), played by Reed Birney, is deeply troubled, having found religion after spending some time in jail.

The film is essentially a play, with only the two characters featured. It is clearly attempting to be controversial with its choice of subject matter. It is relatively well written and does give an insight into the mind of a damaged individual, but also leaves you in his company for far too long! Reed Birney’s performance is the highlight, but the subject matter will be enough to scare most potential viewers off.
