A Year in Music – 2023 – Of All Living Things

A Year in Music – 2023 – Of All Living Things
by Killian Laher

Cam, Cian, Danilo and Eunice from the band of all living things

How are you? How are things?

We’re great! We’ve had a bit of a slow year, balancing work with writing and working on new music, but have recently just come from the studio and are all super excited for what’s to come. It’s nice to be back on track.

Do you think it’s been a good year for music? What were your highlights?

Every year is a good year for music, to be honest! We’re particularly blessed here in Ireland, I’m always so enamoured by the endless amount of great music and art coming from our small country. Some highlights of the year for us so far include:

Search Results – Information Blip

Lankum – False Lankum

Deathcrash – Less

Blake Mills – Jelly Road

Colin Stetson – When we were that what wept for the sea

girlfriend. – To Be Quiet

MARO – hortelã

Music seems to be on an endless cycle of comebacks – with goth making something of a resurgence this year.  What do you think about that?

It seems more and more bands/ acts are taking influence from 80s/ 90s music and creating new styles of music with it. There’s so much new innovative music happening at the moment, which is also great of course, that sometimes the nostalgia of hearing an emerging band/ act re-interpret music styles that had such passionate ‘niche’ audiences decades ago can be quite impactful. girlfriend.’s album we mentioned before is a great example of emo/ shoegaze resurgence this year.

Anyone you’d like to see reform/return?

We went to see Yo La Tengo early this year in the Olympia, and would love to see them again soon! Big fans of American band Greet Death as well, who none of us have ever seen live before. I think they have never played in Europe so really hoping we get to catch them live at some point. Ah, it would be great to witness a Cocteau Twins comeback!

Are you working on an album? Anything you can tell us about that?

We’re actually currently finishing up our second EP, to be released in 2024. We’re in the final stages of recording it at the moment! We still really want to release a full-length album as a band at some point in our careers but decided it made more sense to focus on a shorter release for next year to make sure it is something we are fully proud of and can be delivered in a way that is faithful to us, always.
