Wider Than Pictures – National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks
A new series of gigs/ mini-festival hits Dublin this week from the good people at Singular Artists. It goes by the name of Wider Than Pictures and takes place in the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks. The venue was used this year for the Patrick’s Day Festival, with Damien Dempsey playing amongst others, and it worked very well. There are four gigs in total, but I suspect Alt-J and Fleet Foxes are the two main points of interest for readers of this site.
Alt-J released their new album, The Dream, earlier this year and it received a series of four-star reviews from sources like the Guardian and NME. The three-piece are known for their live performances, so it promises to be a good night!
“Their 2012 Mercury Prize and Ivor Novello Award-winning debut An Awesome Wave, was followed two years later by their number one, GRAMMY and BRIT Award-nominated album This Is All Yours. Released in 2017, RELAXER flew straight into the top 10 of the UK album chart ahead of a summer of major international shows – including a headline show at London’s O2 Arena and headline performances at numerous festivals – and became their second album to be nominated for the Mercury Prize.”
The other gig of note is the return of the wonderful vocal harmonies of Fleet Foxes! It’s been two years since the release of their album Shore, but I suspect there must be something new in the pipeline if they’re back on the road. The album received a glowing review from Pitchfork and featured in many of the ‘Best Of’ lists at the end of the year. Hopefully, they’ll play some of their classic tunes such as Can I Believe You, which is featured below…
“This will mark the band’s return to live shows since 2018 following the end of its world tour in support of the 2017 album Crack-Up. The live show will feature Robin Pecknold joined by Skyler Skjelset (multi-instrumentalist, vocals), Casey Wescott (multi-instrumentalist, vocals), Christian Wargo (multi-instrumentalist, vocals), and Morgan Henderson (multi-instrumentalist). “
