TV Picks of the Week – 26/01/21
Have you been watching? And if not, why not? The most talked-about show of the year (ok, it’s only January) is written by Russell T Davies, who has previously written Queer as Folk, The Second Coming and Casanova. It’s set in the 80s and explores the impact of AIDS on young gay men and their friends. Expect it to start off happy and then… not so much. Essential viewing.
Call My Agent!: Season 4 (Now on Netflix)
Did you know that the original french name for this is ‘Dix pour cent’, as in the cut that an agent gets. You did? If so, go on to the next title. This is finally getting the attention it deserves, as Season 4 has just been released on Netflix. This season expect to see Charlotte Gainsbourg, Sigourney Weaver, Jean Reno and more. If you haven’t tried it already, now is about time. I’ve left the trailer below in its original language so you can test your French!
Hip Hop: The Songs That Shook America – BBC 4 on Friday at 10.
BBC 4 on Fridays is always a great spot for music nerds. This week there is the start of a series that explores Hip Hop songs like Kanye West’s Jesus Walks, Kendrick Lamar’s Alright, and Ladies First by Queen Latifah.
Why is Netflix going all French recently? Who knows, this is a fairly bog-standard ‘Oceans 11’ style caper series but with a twist… ok, there’s not really a twist other than the usual ones. Expect lots of nice shots of Paris, if nothing else.
