A Year in Music – 2018 – RM Hubbert

A Year in Music – 2018 – RM Hubbert – by Killian Laher

What are your favourite albums of 2018?
In no particular order :

Bananas – Malcolm Middleton
Daphne & Celeste Save The World – Daphne & Celeste
The Euphoric – The Fierce & The Dead
Joy As an Act Of Resistance – Idles
Choose Life – Apostille
From When I Wake The Want Is – Kathryn Joseph

Any artists you discovered this year that you can’t be without?
Apostille and Idles were new to me this year.  Really enjoying both. Carla J Easton too, she’s great.

Are there any personal highlights, musical or otherwise from 2018?
It’s been great to get back out touring again, especially with the new band.  We’ve had a lot of fun, especially our Irish dates. That was a lot of fun.

It’s been a good year, with the release of two albums.  Does it feel like a satisfying year?
Aye, it’s been good!  Neither Aidan nor I were sure how well Here Lies The Body would do, so it was really satisfying to see it do well.  Making Ghost Stories For Christmas was some of the best fun I’ve had in the studio too, we had a lot of laughs.

What inspires you these days?

Same as always really.  Part survival, part ego!

How about next year, what’s ahead?

Aidan and I will be doing some festivals and maybe a trip over to Europe before the clusterfuck of Brexit happens, if we can manage it.  Other than that, I’ll be getting started on a new solo album and possible film to accompany it. Quite excited by that.
