The Gaiety Theatre presents the Druid Production of Sive by John B. Keane

READ OUR REVIEW OF SIVE HERE – 31st January 2018

At a press reception on Friday 11th November 2017, held appropriately in the John B. bar itself of the Gaiety Theatre, Gary Hynes, the director of Druid, announced the cast for this new production of Keane’s much loved play:

Gráinne Good – Sive
Andrea Irvine – Mena
Barbara Brennan – Nana
Tommy Tiernan – Thomasheen Seán
Brian Doherty – Mike Glavin
Seán Doyle – Liam Scuab
Bosco Hogan – Seán Dóta
Marie Mullen – Pats Bocock
Radie Peat – Carthalawn

To those familiar with the play it will be seen that Gary Hynes has made a significant alteration namely that the parts of Pats Bocock and Carthalawn will be played by women. That alteration has the blessing of the deceased playwright’s estate as evidenced by Billy Keane, son of the playwright, speaking at the reception. Marie Mullen, who is synonymous with Druid, will play Pats Bockock while Radie Peat, who sand and played guitar at the reception, makes her debut as Carthalawn.

Tommy Tiernan is also a significant surprise for his role as Thomasheen Seán. It should be interesting to see how he does in this new production.
