Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie – Salero Original Motion Picture Soundtrack – Album Review by Killian Laher

Adam Wiltzie’s latest release is a soundtrack to Salero, a movie about the vast salt flats in Bolivia. Those familiar with Wiltzie’s work with A Winged Victory for the Sullen and Stars of the Lid will want to investigate this, it consists largely of soaring, string-based epic-sounding tracks. The mood here is more solemn bliss-out than creep-out, evidenced by tracks like The Premonition, The Few of Us Left and Transforming the Country. The Budapest Art Orchestra bring added gravitas to the melodies here on tracks like They Dream of More and Bring This Place To Life, making the music sound ‘important’, as if soundtracking some significant event. The distant percussion on Wealth Baby adds to the weighty, serious feel to the album. But largely the mood is tranquil, epitomised by Lithium, The New Era. It’s not so easy to put this kind of music into words but really, as a means to checkout from the world for half an hour or so, there are far worse ways to do it.
