Patty Griffin is a Queen of Americana and returns to these shores for a night in Whelans on September 8th. Sadly it is the same night as Giant Sand were due to be in town, but this concert has been postponed, but as a replacement we really can’t complain. There won’t be a dry eye in the house!

Patty Griffin will release Servant Of Love on September 11, her tenth album and the first to be released on her new self-owned imprint in conjunction with Thirty Tigers. It marks the third time she has collaborated with producer Craig Ross.

A Grammy-Award winning artist, Patty has achieved great acclaim for her songwriting (“..the real star is Griffin’s songwriting” Sunday Times) as well as her powerful voice (“Overwhelmingly, though, this show was about Patty Griffin’s remarkable voice: it swooped, it soared, it floated, it pierced, and it soothed like a healing balm“ FT). Her first two albums, Living With Ghosts and Flaming Redare considered seminal albums in the singer-songwriter genre, while Children Running Thoughwon Best Album and led to her being named Best Artist at the 2007 Americana Music Awards. She won the Grammy for Downtown Church, her 2010 gospel album. 2013’s compelling American Kid graced Album of the Year lists from Mojo and Uncut to the Independent and was declared “A triumph of powerful, profound songwriting” in a 5 star Daily Telegraph review. Her songs have been covered by a myriad of artists including Emmylou Harris, The Dixie Chicks, Joan Baez and Bette Midler. She was born in Old Town, Maine and resides in Austin, Texas.
