Things To Do In Dublin (16-03-15 – 22-03-15)

St. Patrick’s Day Festival runs until Tuesday with a huge amount of evnets around the city, and a lot of them free!  Check out the full line up here. There’s Music in the City on Monday at 2pm. Cities Breathing is another interesting event. There’s also the Happenings event, St Patrick’s day unlocked in Meeting House Square, with Nialler9: Ensemble Ériur, Jinx Lennon, HARE SQUEAD, Sinéad White and Tonnta Music.

There’s some new pieces of theatre, with the Death of a Comedian at the Peacock and I ♥ Alice ♥ I  at the Project among others.

On the gigs scene, there’s Eriu at IMMA tomorrow, which is organised by Body and Soul and features Lamb, Jape and more. There’s also Paddy’s Day Unlocked and many more events for Tuesday. The best of the rest includes John Talabot at District 8 and Fight Like Apes at the Sugar Club!

The big show in the movie world this week is the opening of JDIFF from March 19th to 29th. You can see our preview here, but really you need to explore the programme and take a few risks.

The festival has managed to procure the attendance of three famous actors turned directors namely Kenneth Branagh whose fairy tale masterpiece Cinderella will be shown, Alan Rickman will showcase his period film A Little Chaos and Russell Crowe will be here for his Gallipoli inspired directorial debut The Water Diviner. Kenneth Branagh is also to receive a Volta, an award created by the festival to celebrate individuals who have made a significant contribution to the world of film. Julie Andrews will also be in attendance to receive her Volta. She will close the festival with one of her greatest films the iconic The Sound of Music. The festival will also be graced with the presence of Ryan O’Neal and will show his collaboration with Barbara Streisand in What’s Up Doc? and he will also be in conversation with Grainne Humphreys.
