Trickster – Black Box Theatre, Galway – Oct 10th & 11th

Trickster

Trickster runs in the Black Box Theatre in Galway on the 10th and 11th of October. It is a new work by English artist and composer Jez Colborne, whose work has been performed in the National Theatre, London.

This work promises to be an “awe-inspiring musical experience” and is inspired by the story of Odysseus, and sparked by Jez’s interest in making music using sirens and foghorns.

an awe-inspiring musical experience for “Ignite” in Galway – 10th & 11th October 2014

International artist and composer Jez Colborne is working with Galway-based project That’s Life and the Town Hall Theatre to create an awe-inspiring musical experience entitled Trickster, inspired by the stories of Odysseus, a man on a journey.  Sparked by Jez’s fascination with making music using sirens, foghorns, cranes and all things industrial, Trickster will immerse Galway audiences in a wave of sounds on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th October at The Black Box.

The project is one of three “Ignite” commissions which represent the largest ever investment in Ireland’s arts and disability sector.

This unique work will feature artists, musicians and performers with disabilities from That’s Life, an arts and disability initiative of the Brothers of Charity.  Jez exploded onto the international music scene in 2012 with Irresistible, commissioned for London 2012 and performed at London’s National Theatre. Jez works in partnership with Mind The Gap.

Jez says, “I am buzzing with excitement. Everything about Galway inspires me – the port, the cranes, the weather. All these things are going to fuel my passion to jam and mix a really unique piece with the fantastic artists from That’s Life and Town Hall Theatre. Bring it on!”

“We, at Mind the Gap, are so excited that Jez has this fantastic opportunity to realise his musical vision to create extraordinary, radical, new music which portrays his unique view of the world,” says Tim Wheeler. “Opportunities like the Ignite Commission are fundamental in shaping the international platform for artists with intellectual disability.”
