New Movie Releases – 27-09-13

There are other movies released this week and even a few good ones, but I’m going to ignore them and focus on a re-release. The Wickerman: The Final Cut has arrived in the cinema, and is 8 minutes longer than the original. I can only hope all eight minutes are in the dancing scene, cinema magic! It is the 40th anniversary of this gem, and will we find out where Rowan Morrison has gone?

Blue Jasmine is the new movie by Woody Allen, and he’s in serious mode again. Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin star in this story of a wealthy socialite brought down to earth with a bump. The reviews are all positive, so add it to the list, just below the Wickerman!

Prisoners is the story of ‘how far will this desperate father go to protect his family?’ Who writes these tag lines, honestly. It’s the tale of the extreme actions of a father when his daughter and a friends child are kidnapped. Hugh Jackman and  Jake Gyllenhaal star, and yet more positive reviews. Some tough choices this weekend, by the look of things!

Hannah Arendt is a look at the life of philosopher and political theorist Hannah Arendt who reported for The New Yorker on the war crimes trial of the Nazi Adolf Eichmann. The reviews are average to positive, but the subject matter is pretty fascinating.

Austenland is a romantic comedy about a woman obsessed with Jane Austen, and it’s our first pass of the week. Oh man, this looks like my nightmare movie, but I guess I’m not the target market.

Mister John is the story of a man who travels to Singapore to look after his brother’s business following his death and stars Aidan Gillen. Reviews are average, and it looks a little dull.

And the final movie release of the week is… Runner, Runner, which stars Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck. Having spent so much on the main stars, they couldn’t afford a decent writer.

  1. I know someone who does a wonderful version of that dance scene that I would love to see again. They are just lucky that smart phones weren’t around at the time.
