So what’s so exciting about a new band playing Whelans then? Well, they’re new, but they have some familiar faces involved. The band is one part Teenage Fanclub (Norman Blake) and one part Penrice Brothers (Joe Pernice). They are in the process of recording a new album together, which should be released in 2014, but on this tour you can expect a few classics from each of their long careers.
The last time I saw Norman Blake in Whelans he said it is his favourite venue, and it was not one of those ‘I love Dublin’ comments, he actually meant it, so hopefully he’ll enjoy himself on Sunday.
You can buy tickets for a nice price of €14 here. Not to be missed!
The term mendicant (from Latin: mendicans, “begging”) refers to begging or relying on charitable donations, and is most widely used for religious followers or ascetics who rely exclusively on charity to survive.
They have released an EP called the ‘Australia 2013 EP’ on One Little Indian, July 8th 2013.
