An event out of left field, but looks like an interesting one and hopefully they get good weather for it! Dollymount Strand will hold a leg of this year’s European Kite Boardercross Championships plus Stand-up Paddle Boarding Competition this weekend, with the event called ‘Battle for the Bay’. Believe it or not, Dollymount is considered one of the best beaches in the world for it (according to this press release anyway!). It’s always bloody windy there, so I guess that’s a bonus for them. I think a trip to the sea side is in order!

 “Dollymount Strand will be transformed into a veritable water wonderland when the globe’s best kitesurfers descend on the beach to showcase their spectacular skills and gravity defying moves as they skim the water surface and compete for the coveted King or Queen of the Bay crown.”

“Battle for the Bay is a free, entertaining weekend for all the family, young and old, where audiences are enthralled, entertained and captivated by kitesurfers from across the world as they weave across the glittering bay. Pure Magic will give demonstrations on the beach, freestyle shows, paddle boarding and kite surfing introductions for newcomers. There will be live music, a Kids Zone, funfair, food village & BBQ plus a Kids Kite Competition. The kidszone will include some fun family amusements…- The Gyroscope – shoreside gravity defying experience, a Bungee Trampoline, Bouncy castles and slides!”

“The weekend would not be complete without a splash of music! After a stellar live performance on RTE Radio One’s Arena this week, alternative folk trio Red Sail will kick off the championship on Friday. Saturday hosts a jam-packed programme of musical performances from teen rockers Elevation Falls, 90s/60s rock quartet Radio Friendlies, energetic guitar-based pop act Gangs and Crafty Fuzz with their unique concoction of soul, gospel and classic 70s rock. The championships will draw to a close on Sunday with performances from new-wave quartet Dirty Epics along with Rag Trio and singer-songwriter Darragh Cullen. Dirty Epics will storm the stage with their post punk electro-pop sound. With their second album ‘One Way Mirror’ recently released after a 5-year hiatus, revellers are in for a treat. Dollymount Bay will be pounding to the band’s ripping guitar riffs and raging onstage presence.”
