Nearly Men – Albums of the Year – Part 2

Mac Demarco

Mac DeMarco -2 – A new name to me this year, and a nice dreamy surf sound of guitars, bass and drums. He’s a Canadian multi instrumentalist who also works as a multimedia artist. A name to watch out for!

David Byrne and St Vincent – Love this Giant – This seemed like a marriage made in heaven and it almost was! They both have the similar vision of the world and their musical directions could blend perfectly. I’d almost wish they’d do this again, and write this off as a practice round. Who knows, maybe they will.

Jens Lekman – I know what love Isn’t – A similar vibe and sound from Jens, and once more another pop gem! The Swedish singer is know for his bitter sweet lyrics ‘Lets go see a band, No, i hate bands, it’s always packed with men their girlfriends’. Tell it like it is Jens….

Django Django – Django Django – The first few times I heard Default I was little more than horrified at how similar it was to the Beta Band. After relaxing on the subject, I had to admit it was also a damn good song. The type of music you like hearing on the radio, perfect pop music.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor -Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend! – We had to wait ten years for it, and when it did arrive, it was like nothing had changed, but I think I had! They probably waited too long, or else too many people had been making their sound in the mean time. I just expected much, much more. Still have to say I enjoyed it though.

Daphni – Jiaolong – What do you do during your days off? Shopping? Sports? Dan Snaith of Caribou makes records! Yes, that’s his day job also. A lovely side project with lots of bleep sounds and banging drums.
