Dave Brubeck died on Wednesday (5th Dec 2012) at the age of 91, and it would be a shame not to mark his passing in some way. I think if you asked most people what jazz was, they’d come back with ‘take five’ but obviously there was a lot more to his work. He’s also responsible for jazz standards (I love that term!) such as “In your own sweet way” and “the Duke”. He was also known for his experimentation with time signatures, with “Take Five” in 5/4 time and “Pick up sticks” in 6/4 time.
Dave and his wife Iona have six children, five of whom are/ were professional musicians.
