The choice music prize is held later today, and we await with baited breath to find out what 11 randomly picked music heads think is the best Irish album of this year. The most interesting thing would be to be a fly on the wall of the judging panel, and see what goes on behind closed doors.
As with most things decided by committee, it’ll be a compromise, and will not be the loudest, nastiest album on the list, regardless of how good it actually is. If one judge thinks an album is poop, they’ll stick to their guns and continue to steadfast until another more moderate album is fixed upon. So what do you think is going to win?
I think I’d have a punt on Pugwash or Lisa Hannigan, but who knows. Paddy Power thinks it’ll be Cashier No. 9, and they’re rarely that far wrong.
