The Kilkenny Arts festival web site is the stuff of legends. There used to be an urban myth that the Ryan Air web site was made by a junior cert student on a wet weekend, which was all part of O’Leary’s bizarre marketing campaign (see paying for the toilets, people still talk about that one!), but with this web site, I’d believe it!
Click on the section marked ‘music‘ and you get a list of unremarkable events, but after following Foggy Notions’ twitter feed, it turns out that as well as Mark Kozelek playing there, they also have the Sea and Cake (7th of August), Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (12 Aug) and Agnes Obel (11th Aug, St Canice’s).
The Literature section is also quite interesting, with talks by Tobias Wolff, Claire Keegan, Pat McCabe, Dermot Healy and John Banville. Not a bad selection actually, and Tobias is possibly my favorite short story writer.
I found most of the above events by searching directly for them on the site, so lord only knows how you’re meant to find them otherwise. Who know’s what else is on?
