Peter Hook plays Joy Division – Phantom First Friday

This is an odd one really, as it begs the question, can you be a tribute band to yourself? Peter Hook is a former member of Joy Division, and is revisitng his old band, when he visists Dublin on June 3rd.

His new band ‘The Light’ will be playing ‘Unknown Pleasures’ which was released in 1979. Tickets are priced at 14 euro, and it comes complete with a DJ set from Michelle Doherty afterwards.

Peter Hook played bass for Joy Division, and was obviously a key member of the band, as the bass lines were very promintent in their work. His voice isn’t a world away from Ian Curtis either, but you wouldn’t call him a natural lead singer either. You can compare and contrast the versions of ceremony below, and see what you think. They do a pretty good job of the song, in truth.
