New Movies – Meek’s Cutoff

Meek’s Cutoff seems like the movie of choice this week. It’s directed by Kelly Reichardt who made Old Joy starring Will Oldham a few years ago. Its rare a trailer really captures me, but this one has me sold! The critics all seem to like it also, so I’m looking forward to this one.

Otherwise, Red Riding Hood seems to be a chance for the critics to sharpen their pencils, as most of the papers discuss at length how bad it is! ‘Your Highness’ gets average reviews, but even at that, I’m quite surprised. ‘Winnie the Pooh’s’ new movie seems to be liked by most of the critics, but it’s hard not to love Winnie, isn’t it?

An old favorite of mine re-opens today, in the IFI. The last picture show is Peter Bogdanovich’s directorial debut, and he never surpassed it in my view! It’s 40 years old, made in 1971.
