Exciting week at the movies!

Yes, this is one that we’ve been waiting for, for a long time and is a definite for the oscars if you ask me. I’m of course talking about John Carpenter’s ‘The Ward’, starring lots of people you’ve never heard of. It gets about 2-3 stars off most of the rags sadly, but I’m sure I’ll still end up watching it some Halloween in the not too distant future.

The big release of the week is ‘Black Swan’ from director Darren Aronofsky (who previously did the Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream and of course, the Fountain). Darren seems to have made the step up to grown up movies with the wrestler, and is likely to be in the running for best movie/ best director for this one. The papers all wet themselves about it, with four and five star reviews, so it’s probably worth a visit. I may be going to it on the arm of a heavily pregnant lady on Sunday!

Neds is a scottish drama about, well, NEDS (Non-educated delinquents). I saw the trailers a few months ago at the cinema and I’m not sure it’s one for me, but it gets four stars in most of the reviews i can find. Update: James vouches for this one, so probably worth a visit.

    • Ok, two good movies this week then! good news. The trailer looks a little suspect, but the art of a good trailer is a strange one.

A grown up movie = not pi. It’s about some silly equation which is the basis of all life, as I recall? The fountain is also not a grown up movie, as it has time travel or something in it.
