One that got away – 2010 albums – Brian McBride

Composed for the film, Vanishing of the Bees, Brian McBride’s Effective Disconnect was released in 2010 and as a big fan of both McBride’s solo work and his main project Stars of the Lid (with Adam Wiltzie), I have to admit this one slipped under my radar until recently. For anyone unfamiliar with McBride or SOTL, they are masters of the ambient/classical/drone form. Listen to Melodrames Telegraphies (in b major 7th) Part 1, below:

  1. I know this is a terrible thing to say, but i’ve never been a huge fan of stars of the lid! NIce background music, but never really did much for me. Nice enough stuff this also, but doubt i’d put it on to listen to.

Brian McBride sounds very Irish. I think we could claim him.

    • nooooo…. check out “The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid” and “and Their Refinement of the Decline”. Beautiful albums. Tired Sounds was the first SOTL album I heard. It’s a double album and it really blew me away when I first heard it. It is achingly beautiful at times. Can’t recommend it enough! And I love Refinement equally at this stage!

  2. I have ‘Their Refinement…’ and have listened to it a good bit, but it really did little for me. I know people who became addicted to that album and would listen to it every day for months. Not me though!
