New at the Movies

Ok, a quick round of what’s new this week. I went to ‘Another Year’ last week, and it was a little better than I expected. As with all of his movies, even though it’s about next to nothing, it does last with you for a long time. His movies are never that different, but I have a soft spot for them! Worth seeing if you get the chance, as long as you know what you’re getting.

‘We are what we are’ gets four stars from the Guardian (Bradshaw) and the Times, the english indo only gives it two, but maybe they’re being difficult. It’s a South American tale of cannibalism, which does sound pretty promising! Not for the faint of heart by all accounts, it’s on in the IFI and Lighthouse. Must trick someone into going to it with me. hmm.

‘Mammoth’ is the new movie by Swedish director Lukas Moodysson, and his first in English. It deals with the theme of ‘social and economic exploitation on global scale’ according to the Guardian. Hmm. Again the Times and the Guardian seem to like it. It’s on in the Screen cinema, and can’t find it anywhere else. I think I’d have to go with the South American Cannibals though, hard to resist!

  1. I went to Mammoth and thought it was pretty good. It’s a pretty bleak vision of the world and a bit unrelenting on that side of things, but it was very well made and i like the Mammoth.

The Mammoth is the most expensive pen in the world, that is made from the bones of Mammoths. I just like the idea, I wonder do they actually exist, i must check that out…
