Ben Folds

Ben Folds has just announced a gig in Vicar street for the 18th of Feb with tickets on sale on Friday for a mere 33.60, which isn’t too bad. He’ll be playing new songs from his album ‘Lovely Avenue’ which was co-written with Nick Hornby. Yes, that Nick Hornby. you can hear a few tracks from it here.

I first came across Nick Hornby through his book, Fever pitch, which is his book about football addiction, a problem I have been suffering from for many years, and I could see a lot of myself in it! His later work such as High Fidelity and About a boy, my interest wained a little, but he is still a solid enough writer.

Nick has written the lyrics for this album, and I’m not sure what I was expecting from it, but there doesn’t seem to be any added depth to them. I may actually prefer Ben’s own lyrics, but still it is an interesting collaboration. It must be great for a music nerd like Nick to have his lyrics put to music like that.
