Twilight Singers

Greg Dulli played in Whelans last wednesday week, which seemed a little out of the blue, as he hasn’t released anything a while. I was slightly disappointed with the arrangement (two guitars and one guy playing violin), but over all enjoyed the gig. As ever, I spent most of the night trying not to make eye contact with Greg, as he’s well known for abusing members of the crowd, which has ended up in fisticuffs on more than one occasion!

The new twilight singers album is coming out on February 15 and features guest appearances from Ani DiFranco and Mark Lanegan (Is that not cheating?). You can download “Blackbird and the Fox” from the new album in exchange for an email address.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Greg as he’s such an ideal lead singer for a band, as he’s completely full of himself even though he’s a pretty fat middle aged man at this stage. Here’s a version of Debonair from Conan O’Brien. Can anyone explain why these people were never as successful as the Kings of Leon? Makes no sense to me at least.
