The Workman’s club is the new spot in Dublin, located just beside the Clarence hotel, and the home of a very small bar also! Whoever is booking gigs for it is doing a fine job. I’ve just checked the upcoming line up, and there’s at least two or three worth a mention.
PVT – 9/09/10
Fionn Regan – 10/09/10
The Jimmy Cake -18/09/10
Future Islands – 20/10/10
Peter Broderick – 21/10/10
Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip -05/11/10
Casiotone for the Painfully Alone – 06/11/10.
That’s a pretty stunning first few weeks in their new location, so I think I’ll be going to at least a couple of those. Peter Broderick is ex-Efterklang, and I saw him in Whelans about a year ago now, and was very impressed with him. He jumps with ease from one instrument to the next, and has endless gadgets to loop and mess with all the sounds he creates, get along to him if you can.
Casiotone for the painfully alone is an awful name for a singer, and it actually put me off listening to them for a while. Still, hopefully you can click on the link below and you can hear a little of what they’re like.
Not that small a bar, as it happens. Two floors of bar-ness in fact. It’s a bit unfinished but has bags of potential.
Well, what i meant was, the new small bar opposite the Project, is that not the front entrance to the place? It looks a decent size alright, and everyone seems impressed with it, so looking forward to my first gig there!
Although i do have the very middle aged problem of where to park!
Nope, that’s the Garage I think. Which I used to drink in as a nipper, and it’s much the same today (give or take +250% inflation). Main way into TWC is on the quays.
ok, 2 + 2 =5 then! I saw a new bar beside the clarence and presumed that was the front of it. That saved an interesting conversation in the garage then!
