Pavement ATP

Stage times for the now annual trip to ATP have been listed here!

First and most obvious tough choices, night one… Calexico and the Walkmen (only one winner really, seen Calexico a 100 times), but otherwise, it doesn’t look too bad. I’ve left off the smaller stages below, but there’s some good stuff on those also. Who do we need to research? any tips from anyone on who not to miss?

FRIDAY MAY 14TH

BANDS

PAVILION

5.45pm-6.30pm – SURFER BLOOD – nice bouncy indie band, who are kinda trendy at the mo.
7pm-8.15pm – CALEXICO
8.45pm-10pm – BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE

CENTRE STAGE

5pm-5.45pm – AVI BUFFALO – nice melodic stuff, a nice slow start really.
6.15pm-7.15pm – SPIRAL STAIRS – Pavement co-founder Scott Kannberg.
7.45pm-8.45pm – THE WALKMEN- should be lots of fun
10pm-11pm – MISSION OF BURMA – Shouty, not really my scene, but will give ’em a go.
11.30pm-12.30am – QUASI – don’t know these guys from adam, but quite like ’em.
1am-2am – WOODEN SHJIPS

SATURDAY MAY 15TH

BANDS

PAVILION

3pm-4pm – BLITZEN TRAPPER
4.30pm-5.30pm – FIERY FURNACES – Phantom favourite, they’re not bad, but could be missed.
6pm-7.15pm – CAMERA OBSCURA – have a soft spot for these guys, especially this song.
7.45pm-10pm – PAVEMENT -what can one say? loved ’em on tuesday.

CENTRE STAGE

1pm-1.45pm – HORSE GUARDS PARADE – English indie band, nice daft lyrics, slow stuff, again, could be good.
2.15pm-3.15pm – THE DRONES – Nice loud guitars, never like australian accents though, or maybe that’s just me.
3.45pm-4.45pm – SACCHARINE TRUST – One of Kurt Cobain’s favourite bands, although not sure he had much taste!
5.15pm-6.15pm – MARK EITZEL -what is he doing on the main stage at this time?
6.45pm-7.45pm – BORIS – Japanese three piece, who bang it out!
10.15pm-11.15pm – FAUST – krautrock band from the 70’s,
11.45pm-12.45am – ATLAS SOUND – as in the guy from deerhunter. meant to be dead good when he plays with a band, and not great when he plays alone.
1.15am-2.15am – STILL FLYIN’

SUNDAY MAY 16TH

BANDS

PAVILION

4.15pm-5.15pm – WAX FANG – these sound nice and odd, post rock-ish but in a daft way.

6.15pm-7.15pm – BORIS performing FEEDBACKER
7.45pm-8.45pm – TERRY REID featuring MATT SWEENEY -again i don’t really know him, but i know matt sweeney, and don’t really like what he did to will oldham! we shall see, sounds good enough on myspace.

  1. Some additional snippets:

Two of Quasi are also in The Jicks, Steve Malkmas’ dull current band, and they have about 5 albums. Not bad actually, and a lot better than The Jicks stuff that I’ve sat through.

I’ve seen Mission of Burma play support in Koko before, and they were pretty dull. I think that was their first gig together in years, but whatever, not particularly memorable (time for a trip to the bar…).

Matt Sweeney made Will Oldham suck, but, he was the guitarist in Chavez, who were a lovely Matador band who only made a couple of albums in the late ’90s (and should have made more), so I hold out some hope.

Hmm, it has to be said, it does look like you could bail out at around 8:30 on Sunday night and miss not very much, but maybe the late acts will surprise us!

  2. actually endless boogie do sound like the could be good! quite funky stuff. I guess they are being honest enough and puttingo n the not as good bands on sunday, as a lot of people go home that night.

Have to say it looks the best ATP yet! Really looking forward to it now, and very much fearing the volcano!

  3. Cool, I’m not going anywhere on the Sunday night anyway, so will be giving Endless Boogie a whirl! It does get a lot quieter as Sunday passes alright, and that’s okay!

It does look like a good one alright, really looking forward to it, and fingers crossed that the volcano behaves itself!

  4. yeah, friday is great! Calexico, The Walkmen, BSS etc. lots and lots to see. Should be a very good start to the event. Saturday isn’t much worse to be honest!

I guess there’s lots of huge fall fans out there, but i think they are all about five years older than us. They’re meant to have had a huge influence on Pavement, but i really don’t see it. i actually couldn’t name one of their songs. Another one to research i guess.
