Album of the Week – 28/08/26

This week sees new albums from the likes of Alabama Shakes (I Must Be Dreaming), Erykah Badu and The Alchemist (Before the World Blows), and Alex Warren (WILDCHILD).

There’s a return of a Beastie Boy with Mike D’s Thank You! It’s lovely to have new sounds from one of the crew. There are also a new release from indie heavyweight Dinosaur Jr. (There Near).

For our album of the week, we’ve gone for Interpol, with their new release This Mirror Weighs a Ton.

Album of the Week — Interpol – This Mirror Weighs a Ton

‘This Mirror Weighs a Ton’ finds the band turning inward while continuing to move forward. Across the record, reflection, distortion and perception become a lens through which familiar shapes are refracted into something slightly alien, as if seen through a different kind of light. Synthesizers, strings, acoustic guitars and percussion are integrated into the fabric of the songs, expanding the palette while revealing colors already latent within it. Nothing feels imposed. Instead, the additions deepen the band’s language of restraint, atmosphere and tension. The result is an album that feels expansive, uncanny and alive with forward motion, not a reinvention but an evolution that allows Interpol to continue transforming without losing their identity.”
