Album of the Week – 07/08/26

First up, a short note about John Douglas of the Trashcan Sinatras, who were last week’s winner of our Album of the Week. On Monday, we heard that John had sadly passed away after a short illness. There were few live bands to compete with the Trashcan Sinatras. Their melodies, harmonies, and cohesion as a live outfit made them one of the best. They never received the success their music so richly deserved. We tip our hat to the passing of a man who made some classic albums.

This week sees John Carpenter release a graphic novel and an accompanying album called Cathedral! An interesting new concept. There are also albums from The Mountain Goats (Days) and Overmono (Pure Devotion) that are worth checking out.

For our album of the week, we went for New York-based singer-songwriter Margaret Glaspy and her new album ‘I Am Both’.

Album of the Week – Margaret Glaspy – I Am Both

“Before setting to work on her 4th album “I Am Both”, the New York-based singer/songwriter Margaret Glaspy assembled a selection of songs that span from fictional vignettes to unguarded self-revelation to empathetic observation of the troubled world around her. Produced by three-time Grammy winner Joe Henry (Aimee Mann, Joan Baez) at New York City’s Reservoir Studios, “I Am Both” brings Glaspy’s disarmingly direct vocals and eloquent guitar work to a cathartic form of folk-leaning indie-rock.”
