Album of the Week – 23/01/26
It’s a quiet week towards the end of January, and while there are a multitude of new releases… It’s not a vintage week?
Fear not, noble reader, as we’ve managed to find a few new sounds for your delectation. We’d recommend you check out Greg Weeks (of Espers), who features below with his new album If the Sun Dies.
For our Album of the Week, we’ve gone for The Paper Kites, who could be described as Melbourne’s finest? This is actually their 7th album, so if you haven’t heard them yet, you’re not really trying…
Album of the Week – The Paper Kites – If You Go There, I Hope You Find It
“The album finds The Paper Kites rediscovering imperfection and stillness. Written on a friend’s farm in their hometown of Melbourne, the band looked to reconnect with what it means to feel something honestly through music, letting go of polish and trusting the moment. “If you go there, I hope you find it,” a phrase Christina Lacy wrote on a fogged-up bus window one morning, became a quiet mission statement — a reflection on distance, devotion and the quiet hope that the people you love will find what they’re looking for, even if you can’t follow them where they go. Musically, it’s the five of them again — recorded live in the room, minimal overdubs, leaning into imperfection. “
