A Year in Music – 2024 – Aoife Wolf

A Year in Music – 2024 – Aoife Wolf

How are you, what sort of year have you had?

I’m good, currently in the studio with Julie (McLarnon: Analogue Catalogue)! I’ve had a good year yeah there’s been lots of growth and reflection. I moved back to Dublin a year ago and I’ve been really enjoying rooting myself down here. There’s such a drive for community at the moment here and a pull away from traditional events and everything centring around which is great. Obviously, there are so many problems with Dublin but I just happen to like it here. I’ve been doing a lot of dancing, I think about music in quite a physical way so that’s something I’m continually trying to work on. I’m excited to keep exploring that. One of the best things I’ve done this year is start a book club with two of my friends. I’ve been really enjoying collaborating with Rory Sweeney the past year too, that’s been an unexpected gift in my life. You’ve caught me on a good day so I feel it’s been a really beautiful year in unexpected ways, moving to Dublin was the right move.

What are the albums you enjoyed most this year?

At the start of the year, I was listening to a lot of Julia Holter, that new Astrid Sonne album is beautiful too. Róis is fantastic. I’ve kind of stopped listening to music now for the past little while except for when my friends release things. I’ve absorbed so much over the years through going to live music and listening obsessively, I’ve had to put a little ban on going to gigs for a while because I feel my head is saturated with influences and I just need to feel into being myself.

Is there any artist or album that defined the year for you?

I can’t lie it’s going to have to be brat (Charli XCX) and Chapell Roan.

Do you think it will get to the stage where the ‘big concert’ is unaffordable for most of us?

Absolutely. PJ Harvey is one of my favourite artists of all time and I didn’t have the 80 quid to go to her gig at the time so I didn’t go.

What’s your reaction if Stairway To Heaven comes on the radio?

I probably would switch it cos I’ve heard it so many times and that’s just the way I am but I was a big Zeppelin fan as a teenager.

Anything interesting in the works yourself?

Currently in the studio working on the next collection of songs for release!
