Album of the Week – 24/05/24

Lenny Kravitz has released a new album! I didn’t think he still did such things. He’s 59 years old now and this is his first album in 6 years. It’s called Blue Electric Light and you can sample it below! There are some touches of Prince from the title track at least. There is also an album from another Rock God in the form of Paul Weller (66), although Paul never really stopped releasing albums!

If you’re looking for mortals instead of Gods, we have an album from Andrew Bird Trio called ‘Sunday Morning Put-On’, along with some remixes from Róisín Murphy (Hit Parade Remixes). You should really give La Luz (News of the Universe) a listen as it’s quite sweet.

For our album of the week, we’ve gone for Gastr del Sol, which is a super group of sorts featuring Jim O’Rourke and David Grubbs. Their last release was not this century, so yeah, it’s their first in a while!

Album of the Week – Gastr del Sol (feat. Jim O’Rourke and David Grubbs) – We Have Dozens of Titles

Nearly twenty-five years after disbanding, Gastr del Sol have unpacked their archive, stringing together an alternative view to their genre-melting 1993-1998 run. This assembly of previously uncollected studio recordings and beautifully captured unreleased live performances forms a spacious ode to the flux that was their métier; a further set of reinventions that continue to alter the manner in which we hear music, and literally everything else!
