There really is a lot of love out there for Fever Ray, if the reviews of their new album Radical Romantics are anything to go by! Another band with some hardcore fans, Death Cab For Cutie have released an acoustic version of their album from last year, Asphalt Meadows. There are also impressive new releases from H. Hawkline (Milk For Flowers) and Sleaford Mods (UK GRIM) which are worth a listen.
I would request that you check out Lonnie Holley right down the end of our list of suggested albums. His new album ‘Oh Me Oh My’ really is quite unusual…
But instead of picking any one of those, we’ve doubled down on Shana Cleveland, with her new album Manzanita. Following up on our lovely review by Cathy Brown yesterday, she’s taking the top prize today.
Albums of the Week — Shana Cleveland – Manzanita
“These are luscious, beautifully layered songs, that bring a depth and complexity to what, at first listen, might seem achingly simple. There is so much to enjoy on this album – from insightful lyrics to lush instrumentation, intimate arrangements to sweeping melodies – all executed with an infectious and irresistible openness. As the album plays out with the otherworldly ‘Walking through Morning Dew’, the listener has fallen under Cleveland’s beguiling spell, proving that Manzanita is her most accomplished work to date.” – From our review by Cathy Brown which you can read here.
