New Irish Music: Joe Chester – Beckett

Joe Chester’s music has been heading in a more ornate direction in recent years.  He has just announced his new album Lucia, due for release on 27th January and also given us the first taster from it, a gorgeous, stately instrumental Beckett.

The album is a ‘suite’ of music written about James Joyce’s daughter Lucia, who was diagnosed as schizophrenic.  Beckett refers to Lucia’s love affair with Samuel Beckett, which he ended as he was more interested in her father!

If this is anything to go by, the album should be a great listen.

Joe Chester plays at the James Joyce Centre on the 4th of November.
