It’s May! The sun is (theoretically) shining, the birds are singing and summer is almost here. Celebrate the coming of the sun by plonking yourself down in front of the TV, closing the curtains and watching these TV Picks of the Week from No More Workhorse.
Julia – Sky Atlantic, Tuesday at 9 pm
Starring the effervescent Sarah Lancashire, Julia follows the life of Julia Child who was a pioneer of the cooking show genre in America. Following a mixed reaction to the show, Julia is inspired by an off-hand comment from a critic to change up the game.
Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted – Channel 4, Wednesday at 10 pm
Fresh out of the kitchen and into the fiery heat of the Tasmanian bush, Gordon Ramsay is out of his comfort zone. In the first episode of this new series, Gordon’s search for culinary epiphanies takes him to Tasmania, an island off the southern coast of Australia
The Terror – Season 2 – BBC 2, Friday at 9 pm
Following a Japanese-American community living in Los Angeles in the 1940s, the second series of The Terror anthology series could be more different from the first. When disturbing things start happening in the small Asian community, due to Pearl Harbour, they are stranded in America with nowhere to turn to.
The Personal History of David Copperfield – Channel 4, Saturday at 9:20 pm
Dev Patel stars as David Copperfield in this colourblind interpretation of the story directed by Armando Iannucci. I could not recommend this film enough, just a delight from beginning to end and one of the best films of the last 3 years.
The Staircase – Sky Atlantic, Sunday at 9 pm
Based on the smash-hit Netflix documentary, The Staircase follows the life of novelist Michael Peterson. With a star-studded cast including Toni Colette and Colin Firth, the show promises to be just as enthralling as the documentary series.
