An extraordinary year in many ways. How did it affect you specifically?
Extraordinary is one word for it I guess. I was lucky enough to be in a rural area with plenty of space… so I got away pretty lightly in that sense. And I suppose we all took a blow to our to-do lists and goals in some shape or form but I was lucky enough to be figuring out how to release an album in the madness of it all so that kept me busy, which I’m thankful for.
Where did music fit in during 2020? Does it seem important?
It played a big role this year. I got to discover a lot more artists and listen respectfully to their work because of the extra downtime, which was really nice.
I guess for me it felt important (it always has). Sometimes one small sentences in a song can change your whole outlook or capture exactly where you are and just make you feel less lonely and that’s an important comfort in strange times… (I think anyway).
What albums resonated this year? Can be old or new.
Wilco – Schmilco –
The Lost Words: Spell Songs
EP – Sun Collective Move/Remove –
If you had to pick one album to sum up this year, what would it be?
Adrienne Lenker – Songs. I just can’t stop listening to it.
Also, ‘Bonny Light Horseman’ –
The American folk supergroup consisting of Anaïs Mitchell, Eric D. Johnson, and Josh Kaufman. The production is stellar, there feels like there is no ego and it feels very genuine, in my ears anyway. Yeah, it just really sat well with me this year… don’t know if any album could sum up this year though but these two really helped.
How have you got through the last 9 months?
I’m almost through a masters so I’ve been doing my best to keep on top of that…
I also got really into all of Ken Burns documentaries, making cider and day dreaming…
Are you working on any interesting projects?
Yep, some fun collaborations.
Any hopes for next year?
I hope to gig as much as possible and make up for all the sitting still in 2020 (the dream).
Also, all going well we’ll be starting pre-production for the next batch of ideas earlier next year. Looking forward to it…
