Interview with Ciarán Quigley – Organiser of The Beatyard 2018

Interview with Ciarán Quigley – THE BEATYARD 2018

We had the chance to put some questions to Ciarán Quigley, who is head of Promotioins at Bodytonic Music, and one of the organisers of this year’s Beatyard Festival. You can see the results below…

Tell me about getting a list of performers together for a festival? What are the main things you have to consider?

You start off with a big list and whittle it down really. Gotta have some dream acts in there, performers have to suit the Beatyard ‘Nautical Boogie’ vibe too. From a more logistical point of view though, they have to available & touring!

Are there any bands you’ve been chasing for years, but it still hasn’t happened?

A few….but that would be telling 🙂 Ah no, but seriously…Jacques Lu Cont! He doesn’t play out too much anymore though. For years he was my favourite DJ.

This is the first three-day Beatyard Festival. What does the extra day mean to you? Are you having a different vibe on any of the days?

Some of the days might feel like they are a bit more individual, but they all stem from our Nautical Boogie narrative. The extra day means it gives us an opportunity to book more acts, and have more people come and have fun at Beatyard.

You seem to put a huge amount of effort into the side events, such as Gamesyard, Banteryard etc. Is it important to offer more than just music?

Definitely, it plays a big part. Music is often what would draw people in initially, but last year we had things like Bingo Loco, Draw with Don Conroy, a Studioyard area where you could mess about on music recording gear, a lego area, just general fun experiences that you wouldn’t have everyday. We put a lot of thought in to our food offerings too through our Eatyard Area. We ran a mini wine & cheese festival in town recently that was incredibly popular, so we are going to have a wine & cheese area at Beatyard this year. We want it to be a whole 360 experience you get.

What would your perfect festival line up be, with any bands or artists, living or dead?

Daft Punk, David Bowie, & Prince!
