Launder – Pink Cloud – EP Review

Launder – Pink Cloud – Review by Killian Laher

Pink Cloud is the debut EP of John Cudlip.  It opens with the lazy, hazy guitar riffs of Wonder, underpinned by an airtight rhythm section.  Like a lot of the EP, it’s not a million miles away from the material of DIIIV or Beach House, perhaps a little more laid back.  Annie Blue picks up the pace, and the combination of Cudlip’s vocals and ringing guitars is quite lovely.  Perhaps the standout is Keep You Close, which features Soko on vocals with Cudlip.  Pleasant touches abound, the eighties synths that punctuate Fade while the rolling bass on final track Follow Me Down make this a perfect 18 minutes of summery sounds.
