Documentary – We Won the Lotto
Monday 5 February, 9.35pm, RTE One

Two part documentary that shines a light on what it’s like to have a big win on the Lotto. A few past winners give insights into how their lives were changed and what they spent their windfall on. A timely look at the subject, given that it’s now 30 years since the National Lottery was introduced in Ireland.

Drama – The Handmaid’s Tale

Monday 5 February, 9.30pm, RTE2

If you missed its run on Channel 4 last year, here’s a chance to see the acclaimed first series of The Handmaid’s Tale (second series is now in production).

Based on the Margaret Atwood novel, the show is set in a dystopian future where the few remaining fertile women are subjugated as handmaids and made to reproduce. Elisabeth Moss turns in a stunning performance but the cast are all on top form, including a very emotive performance by Alexis Bledel.

Film – Ricki and the Flash

Friday 9 Feb/Sat 10 Feb, Midnight, RTE One

A sparky performance from Meryl Streep in this 2015 comedy drama film. She stars as musician Ricki, who pursued her dream of making it in the big time but has ended up in a regular bar band called The Flash.

In the process, she’s broken bridges with her children, who are now all adults. When her daughter (played by Streep’s real life daughter Mamie Gummer) goes through a terrible break up and depression, she heads back to Indianapolis to help her. But can she make up for all those lost years? Directed by Jonathan Demme (it was his last film before his death) and written by Diablo Cody.
