Akira Kosemura – Our Own Picture – Album review by Killian Laher

Up and coming Japanese composer Akira Kosemura returns with his first release of 2017, this short three track EP. Opening track You is a kind of reflective piano piece, the type of thing Dakota Suite have been inching towards in recent years. The title of the following track Out of the Solitary Mind, describes fairly well how it sounds, a vaguely jazzy, lonely piano piece. We finish up with Joy, which is far busier than what went before. This track shows that Kosemura can do far more than just create a mood, with a complex piano performance sounding like several pianists at once. The other two tracks are more immersive, Joy kind of pulls you out of the blissful gloom into more upbeat territory. This relatively short EP could be perfect as a brief escape from the day to day hustle and bustle.

Track List:

1. You
2. Out of the Solitary Mind
3. Joy (solo piano)
