A Year in Music – Danny Venzin (Nite Fields)

maxresdefault

We had the chance to ask Danny Venzin (Nite Fields) about his year in Music. You can see the results below.

What music grabbed you in the last year, can be new or old?

Reggae. It might sound strange but there’s little better escapism than listening to Jamaican music when it’s -20 outside or you’re crammed up against 10 million other people on the subway. (Danny lives in Moscow).

Anything that fell short of expectations?

America.

2016 was a year punctuated by the deaths of significant musical figures (Bowie, Cohen, Lemmy, Prince).  Any personal thoughts about this?

I don’t find it tragic. They all had a pretty good run.

Have you come across any books or movies or other art forms that excited you in the last 12 months?

Nothing worth endorsing I’m sorry. I’ve mainly been skim reading psychology PDFs or current affairs this year.

Do musical formats (records/CDs/mp3s/streams etc) play a part in your world?

Of course.  Do you mean to ask what musical formats?  Streams and mp3s mostly. Vinyl is a luxury I can’t afford at the moment though I do have a pretty big collection of classics back in Australia.

Depersonalisation was a really special album.  Are you planning to follow it up?  What’s the latest on Nite Fields?

Thanks. Yes. I’ve been working on it almost every day this year. Not sure when it will be finished but it will be.
